I try. I really try. But I think I’ve reached the limit as far as change is concerned. I think it’s too late for me to learn anything. I’m as locked in place as this rock I saw last weekend with a tree root growing right through it.

Once again and always I’m asking you to bear with me as I learn this new web host. Life would be perfect if only I could figure out how to get the photos to show up in a decent size, rather than the billboard monstrosity I posted last time. My efforts have included cropping, shrinking, Picasa, finding my Google password, and numerous retreats into knitting, riding for miles in the living room on the “trainer,” navigating Hulu, and coming back to the blog to try again. It’s taken a toll on my Candy Crush progress, I can tell you that.

It’s been cold, cloudy, and damp for days – this morning’s the first time we’re seeing the sun since who knows when? – a perfect time to learn something new. It’s supposed to be good for you. The landscape seems to be taking change in stride, perhaps because it’s not all as abrupt as stepping off a cliff; we’ve had wintry temperatures day and night, but all the growing things are hanging onto autumn.

It’s been feeling like “old school” winter to me, which is nice (let’s take the change out of climate change). Gray, drizzly, with slippery streets and a population that’s somewhat grumpy due to lack of sunshine. We’ve been stuck in year-round drought for so long, I’d forgotten how charming it is to do holiday shopping in awful weather.

I took a couple of shots out the windshield yesterday afternoon. Imagine cold feet and cold hands and you have a good idea of how it’s been around here.

Evidently I have found a way to add photos of what I think may be the correct proportions. What are the odds that I’ll be able to figure out what I did, and if I am able, to remember? Let’s try:
